Yokohama Rubbers joins forces with Alps Alpine to develop tyre sensor technology

The Yokohama Rubber Company will begin research and development (R&D) on car tyre sensors after announcing a joint development effort with Alps Alpine.

With the belief that tyres will need to be connected to the Internet of Things (IOT) in the future, Yokohama will conduct R&D in partnership Alps Alpine to develop Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Service (CASE) compliant technologies.

The goal of the partnership is to develop a solutions business that integrates digital tools to process and manage data relating to tire wear and road surface conditions.

“We believe it is important to develop systems and applications that provide data obtained form tires to drivers and certain other parties,” said a Yokohama spokesperson.

“Such systems and apps are widely expected to add value to new tire business. Accordingly, we are accelerating the development of tire sensors through a joint development effort with Alps Alpine.”
