Two weeks to prepare for fuel price reporting in Queensland

The Queensland Government is close to implementing its mandatory fuel price reporting trial with confirmation the scheme will soon commence in early December 2018.

As part of the trial all fuel retailers in Queensland will be required to report fuel their prices to the government appointed ‘Aggregator’ (known as Fuel Prices QLD) within 30 minutes of making any change.

The Queensland Government has sent every single fuel retailer in Queensland an online link to sign up two weeks ago and is sending a reminder on Friday 16 November. MTAQ fuel retail members are encouraged to sign up now for the trial by entering your fuel retailer details at www.fuelpricesqld.com.au.

Requiring all Queensland fuel retailers to report their fuel prices will ensure the trial is comprehensive and provides maximum pricing transparency for motorists, regardless of where they live in Queensland.

Fuel retailers will be able to choose between four options to report their fuel prices:

  • by directly reporting fuel prices via www.fuelpricesqld.com.au. This approach may be best suited for small retailers and individual retail sites.
  • by direct data upload via an API (Application Programming Interface) or Flat file (plain text file) to Fuel Prices QLD. This approach may be best suited for medium to large retailers with multiple sites.
  • by direct bulk data upload to Fuel Prices QLD through a fuel retailer appointed third party agent.
  • by phone where an internet connection is not available.
