The future arrives as the Tesla Model 3 arrives in Australia

The new Tesla Model 3 is finally here after years of speculation and hype. But does the latest brainchild of Elon Musk live up to everything we have been led to believe it is? Here is everything you need to know about the features included in the new all-electric luxury car.

Coming out of the Tesla dealership in your brand-new Model 3, the first cool new feature you notice is the vehicle’s key, an app on your phone that is connected to your vehicle. There is also a second, physical card key that you can tap against a specific location on your car to unlock it in case your phone runs flat or is left in the car.

The next feature is the new and improved charge range. With claims of a 500km battery charge in the long-range performance edition, its possible drivers may only need to charge the vehicle once a week.

This number may be seen as a little optimistic however, especially with the impressive initial acceleration of the vehicle delivering 0-100km/h acceleration in just 3.4 seconds tempting drivers to put the pedal to the floor.

And its not just the initial burst of acceleration that is wowing people. The rolling acceleration of the vehicle allows drivers to take-off at a rapid rate at any speed they are travelling at. Words like “rocket” and “video-game” have been thrown around when describing the almost unbelievable acceleration the luxury sedan provides.

Then there are the other fun little features to be tried that are available to all new Teslas and provide a uniquely Tesla experience.

The first is feature is autopilot, which allows drivers to simply place their hands lightly on the steering wheel and let the vehicle take over, keeping the car in its lane, speeding up, slowing down and changing lanes when travelling on a highway.

Then there is the sleek, modern interior design of the Model 3. No longer will drivers be keeping an eye on the dashboard to watch their speed or fuel levels, because the Tesla Model 3 doesn’t have one.

Instead, a single, central screen draws the attention of passengers and gives the driver all the facts and figures they need.

The screen also doubles as an entertainment system when the car is parked, with an ‘Emissions Testing Mode’ that consists of farting noises being heard when the indicator is activated, a ‘Romance Mode’ that shows an image of a fireplace on the screen accompanied by mood-setting music, and an ‘Arcade Mode’ that allows drivers to play a racing game on the screen using the steering wheel as a controller, among the built-in Easter eggs available.

From adults with a need for speed, to lazy drivers who want the car to do the work for them on long road-trips, to kids looking to be entertained, Tesla has thought of everyone.

Starting at $66,000 for the entry level edition, Tesla’s latest affordable luxury sedan has certainly lived up to the end-product we have come to expect from the mind of Elon Musk at the very least.
