Small Business Support from Federal Opposition

The Federal Opposition has announced this week that small business will become a top agenda item should they form government after the election.

The Shadow Treasurer confirmed that small business will be represented in a Labor Cabinet confirming support for the small business community.

Dr Brett Dale, Group CEO for MTA Queensland said, “Our small business owners, last year, were very receptive to the Coalition putting small business back into Cabinet in the most recent reshuffle.

“With approximately three quarters of our automotive member businesses being small to medium sized, it is great that both parties are thinking about the importance of a small business perspective when formulating policy.”

There was also acknowledgement of Labor’s national procurement plan to leverage government buying power which would provide opportunities for small business in tendering for work. The government must receive value for money while maintaining a competitive market.

Dr Dale said, “There will be job opportunities for start-ups and small to medium sized businesses who are looking to grow and a competitive business environment is very important to them. Addressing competitiveness must be a high priority for government.”
