SEA Electric to Deliver 8,500 Electric Toyotas for Mining Industry
Local e-mobility technology company SEA Electric has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with systems integration company MEVCO to provide a series of fully-electric Toyota Hilux and LandCruiser vehicles for use in the mining industry.
Through the agreement, estimated to be worth up to nearly $1b AUD, SEA Electric will deliver 8,500 vehicles over the next five years, all built on SEA Electric’s proprietary SEA-Drive® power system technology.
This system, configurable for both 4×4 and 4×2 models, will deliver a range of up to 380km through a 88kWh battery, or alternatively, 260km through the 60kWh battery option, with DC to DC fast-charging delivering up to 80 per cent battery power in less than an hour.
Designed and tested for the rigours of an Australian mine site, the all-electric models come with the additional benefit of providing a more comfortable work environment, with reduced noise, fumes, heat, and vibrations compared to their diesel counterparts.
With more companies globally placing a much larger emphasis on their environmental footprint and looking at ways to innovate their workforce processes, SEA Electric Founder & CEO, Tony Fairweather, said MEVCO would now be able to lead from the front in transforming the mining sector.
“Across all industries, companies now understand they have a role to play in ensuring they are a part of the solution to the environmental problems we face.”
“With the SEA-Drive® power-system, we have developed technology that is perfectly adaptable to a wide range of commercial vehicle tasks that have typically been the domain of diesel-powered engines.
“Through MEVCO, the mining industry will now be able to access cutting-edge technology, which delivers top performance and total cost of ownership prospects, all with sustainability at the forefront.
“This deal is a significant step forward in Australia and shows just what is possible when it comes to electrifying the world’s fleets.”
