Retailers in all sectors to benefit from simplified music licensing

From July 1 2019, all businesses who play music in their premises will now only need to purchase one licence from OneMusic Australia instead of having to secure a music licence from the songwriter body APRA AMCOS and a separate music licence through the recording artist body PPCA.

APRA AMCOS and PPCA still exist and the licence fees/royalties still go direct to songwriters and recording artists, but for the busy retail entrepreneur time spent on getting this essential annual Legal Agreement in place will be halved.

OneMusic Australia will allow businesses to establish and maintain their licence in one place and online giving greater transparency to the process of music licensing. This breakthrough product
offering is the result of extensive and ongoing consultation with the consumer retail and service industry as well as business-to-business service industry and others over the past two years.

The user-pays offering provides seven options to add to a ‘shopping cart’ of music licence cover. Retailers can opt for cover if they have background music, featured music, music videos, website
music, music in their car parks, workplace music or telephone on hold music.
