Releasing balloons is littering
The results from releasing balloons at events are definitely not pretty.
Helium balloons have been found up to 800km from where they started! They end up in all landscapes—from oceans to farms—causing great harm to wildlife and the environment.
It is also classed as littering under the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011, and penalties apply.
The Motor Trades Association of Queensland (MTA Queensland) encourage members to be aware of the damage releasing helium balloons can cause and find alternative options for events and launches.
