Queensland Government to make $100 million available through expanded Small Business Recovery Grants program

The Queensland Government will make a further $100 million available to small businesses through the second round of the Small Business COVID-19 Adaption grant program to support more businesses impacted by the effects of COVID-19.

Through the grant program, eligible small businesses may apply for a grant of up to $10,000, with the funds to be used to help small businesses affected by the shutdowns reopen or transition their business operations online.

Applications for the new round of grants will open from 1 July 2020.

As the first round of grant funding became exhausted in a matter of days due to the high number of applications, eligible businesses looking to take advantage of the grant are being encouraged to read the eligibility guidelines now to ensure they are eligible and have all documents ready to be submitted prior to the 1 July opening date.

The Small Business COVID-19 Adaption grant is available to any small business that has been greatly impacted by Queensland’s shutdown restrictions and experienced a 30 per cent decline in revenue over a one-month period since 23 March 2020, while employing fewer than 20 staff.

With many small businesses located in regional Queensland missing out on the first round of funding, the Queensland Government will allocate 50 per cent of the $10 million exclusively to businesses located outside of South East Queensland this time around.

Small businesses may use the $10,000 grant money to assist with the reopening of their business or to transition their business through access to digital technologies, up-skill or re-skill business owners and employees in new areas that may benefit the business, or to retain employees or create new employment opportunities.
