New vehicle sales remained strong in November, with the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) reporting 95,080 vehicles sold for the month, a 17.9 per cent increase from last year.  This brings the year-to-date (YTD) sales to 993,509 for 2022.

Sales across all States and Territories were up for the month.  Western Australia increased by 36.5 per cent with 9,668 vehicles sold; Queensland, 28.9 per cent (20,621); Tasmania, 23 per cent (1,783); Victoria, 19.1 per cent (25,534); the NT, 14.1 per cent (815); South Australia, 12.3 per cent (5,673); New South Wales, 7.5 per cent (29,545); and the ACT, 2.5 per cent (1,441).

“The automotive sector is continuing to recover from pandemic-related shutdowns, a global shortage of microprocessors, and the general supply chain uncertainty we experienced over the last two years,” FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said.

“The industry will deliver the one-millionth vehicle to the market in 2022 next week.”

Toyota led the market with a total of 20,107 vehicles sold.  Mazda was second with 7,549, followed by Ford (7,165), Kia (6,120) and Mitsubishi (5,559).

The Toyota HiLux regained its place at the top of the charts, with 5,440 examples reported as sold for the month, and now has an unassailable lead in the 2022 new car sales race – where it is on track for its seventh consecutive win.

Ford’s Ranger followed with 5,073.  Toyota’s Corolla was third with 3,732 followed by MG’s ZS (3,051) and Toyota’s Landcruiser (2,296).
