New service introduced to inform businesses of traffic offences in company registered vehicles

Queensland businesses will now be notified when an employee commits a traffic offence while driving a company registered vehicle under a new service introduced by the Department of Transport (TMR).

Under the new Driver Offence Notification (DON) service, registered operators of Queensland registered vehicles will be alerted when an individual using their vehicle/s commits a roadside traffic offence issued by the Queensland Police Service or TMR Transport Inspectors.

Offences may include speeding, illegal use of a mobile phone, heavy vehicle related fatigue, or excess mass, dimension, and loading violations.

The service offers businesses and fleet operators an opportunity to more accurately monitor the behaviour of employees and individuals operating their vehicles to ensure proper driving behaviour is displayed.

The service will also highlight the behaviours of employees doing the wrong thing on the roads, serving as an added deterrent.

Offences that involve court processes will not be included under the current DON service. This includes driving under the influence and unlicensed driving offences.

Previously, registered operators of vehicles were only notified when a camera detected offence had been committed in a registered vehicle.

The expanded service will also allow parents with registered vehicles to monitor the road behaviour of young drivers driving their vehicles, encouraging more open conversations about road safety and driving.

Businesses and other registered vehicle operators can sign-up for the new DON service by registering their email address with TMR here. Registered vehicle operators with an email address already registered with TMR will be automatically registered.

Business with registered vehicles are encouraged to register for the DON service to promote safe driving behaviour and keep Queensland roads and their employees safe.
