MTA Queensland Staff Get On The Phones For The Youngcare Telethon

Thursday 24 September saw 5 MTA Queensland staff volunteer for the Youngcare 24hr Giving Day, held at St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace in Spring Hill.

Youngcare tackles the national problem of young Australians with disabilities being left behind in aged care, hospital rooms and rehabilitation centres- inappropriate accommodation that is not suitable for their aspirations and dignity.

There was a lot of hype surrounding the day with the announcement that every dollar donated was matched by Corporate Partners. The charity also received a surprising kick-start to the fundraiser with Australian-born Hollywood actress Margot Robbie promoting the day to her 26 million fans on Instagram.

MTA Queensland began fundraising for the charity in 2016, and in 2017 announced their partnership, in that time, raising over 36k for the charity.

MTA Queensland have typically raised funds for Youngcare through event-based fundraising which has proved extremely difficult during COVID-19. As hopes for similar activity this year withered, Youngcare evolved their fundraising activities, establishing their first 24hr Giving Day telethon.

When the call went out for partners to donate staff for the phones MTA Queensland was eager and leaped at the opportunity.

The telethon proved to be hugely successful, with a total of $424,307.00 raised over the 24hr period.

Well done to Youngcare for the wonderful work they continue to do for young people in care, and to everyone who volunteered and donated.
