Mitsubishi ASX and Outlander recalled for parking brake fault

Mitsubishi Motors Australia has issued a recall notice for their 2015 ASX and 2016 Outlander models due to a possible fault in the parking brake shaft that may cause unintended vehicle movement.

The recall affects a total of 8,847 vehicles, sold between February to November 2016, stamped model year 2015 (ASX) and 2016 (Outlander).

According to the recall notice lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the vehicles are being recalled for “failure of the anti-rust coasting (Fluorine) may allow rust to form on the parking brake shaft. As a result, the parking brake shaft may become stuck and may not engage.”

The notice continues stating “If the parking brake shaft does not engage when the user shifts into a park position, this could result in unintended vehicle movement. This may increase the risk of an accident, which may result in an injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders”.

Owners of affected vehicles should contact their local/preferred Mitsubishi dealer for inspection and repair, free of charge.
