MG Motor has added a new, more affordable, variant of its HS Plus EV to its line-up in Australia.

The HS Plus EV Excite comes in at $46,990 drive-away, and shares the same petrol/electric powertrain, plug-in battery, and safety technology as its stablemate, the HS Plus EV Essence.

Both models are powered by the same combination of a direct-injection four-cylinder 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and 90kW electric motor to produce a total of 189kW and 370Nm, while returning a claimed combined fuel consumption figure of 1.7L/100km.

The new Excite, like the higher-end Essence, accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 6.9 seconds. A liquid-cooled 16.6kWh lithium-ion battery provides a driving range of 63km (NEDC) on a full charge.

The HS Plus EV Excite comes with the MG Pilot active safety suite, 17-inch alloy rims, LED daytime running lights and taillights, a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The five-seat SUV also sports automatic headlights and wipers, keyless entry and pushbutton start, and electronic park brake.

Other standard features include driver’s 6-way electrically adjustable seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wiper, halogen headlights with automatic illumination, front and rear reading lights, and tyre repair kit.

Safety Technology includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Assist System, Traffic Jam Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Headlamp Control, and Intelligent Speed Assistance System.
