‘Mazda Mutts’ Driving Conversations on Mental Health

Edward Ross & Dan Allen

Well-known for their bright, colourful, and funky ‘conversation-starting’ workwear for the blue-collar workforce, TradeMutt has partnered with Mount Gravatt Mazda and Wippells Mazda to drive change and help make the invisible issue of mental health impossible to ignore.

After losing a close friend to suicide, Dan Allen and Edward Ross co-founded TradeMutt in 2018 with the goal of bringing awareness to mental health issues and reduce the incidence of male suicide in Australia.

Proceeds from the sale of TradeMutt’s workwear goes towards the TIACS (This Is A Conversation Starter) Foundation, TradeMutt’s own charity devoted to helping fund free and unlimited professional mental health support for tradies.

What started as a simple conversation with Mount Gravatt Mazda co-owner Monique Mason, who wanted to purchase a shirt for her husband Julian to wear for men’s health week, suddenly grew into a much larger idea, resulting in a newly formed alliance between the brands.

With suicide and mental health issues on the rise, the team at Mount Gravatt Mazda thought that there was no better occasion to help drive a social shift in the way mental health is perceived.

The Mount Gravatt Mazda crew soon recruited Dave Russell, owner of Wippells Mazda in Toowoomba, who keenly jumped on board to support the movement.

Together, the two sponsored Dan, Ed and the entire TradeMutt crew with two brand new custom-wrapped BT-50 utes, putting the TradeMutt conversation on the road.

Upon seeing the incredible car wraps by the Bailey Print Group in Brisbane, Monique and Julian were extremely pleased.

“It’s definitely a conversation starter. You can’t miss it!” said Monique.

“At Mount Gravatt Mazda, we are committed to the TradeMutt movement in providing social change far and wide and we can’t wait to see Ed and Dan further drive positive change for mental health.”

“As with any successful collaboration, there have been many hard-working hands that have worked together to create a truly remarkable outcome which both Ed and I are humbled by,” Dan added.

Aptly called the “Mazda Mutts”, be sure to keep an eye out for Ed and Dan cruising around South East Queensland, sparking change and driving conversations.

Two identical vehicles can also be found at the Brisbane and Toowoomba dealerships.

What’s more, every Friday, the Mount Gravatt Mazda team put on their TradeMutt shirts to show their support
for the movement and the community of #TRADEMUTTFRIDAY.
