Mazda Australia has issued an urgent recall notice for 1,677 Mazda 2 and Cx-9 model vehicles.

397 Mazda 2 vehicles sold in 2018 have been included in the recall notice, due to a potential leak in the fuel tank.

According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the vehicle’s fuel tank may exceed the specified manufacturer dimensions which could impact the strain placed on the fuel tank retaining strap.

“If the fuel tank retaining strap weakens or breaks, the fuel tank may move out of position, potentially causing fuel to leak from the vehicle. A fuel leak could result in a fire or serious injury to the driver and other road users.

The popular CX-9 model has also been recalled, due to a wiring issue in the vehicle that could cause communication errors between the vehicle’s control modules.

The notice affects all CX-9’s purchased between 16 October 2017 – 6 February 2019.

According to the ACCC, the wiring issue has the potential to affect numerous instruments and panels across the dashboard, engine and airbags.

“The vehicle’s wiring harness connectors may have a weak retention force, which may cause communication errors between the vehicle control modules,” said the ACCC recall notice.

Owners of affected vehicles are encouraged to immediately contact their preferred Mazda dealer for an inspection.
