Mazda 3 recall

Mazda has issued a recall for the popular Mazda 3 model with concerns over the windscreen wipers becoming inoperative during bad weather conditions.

The recall is in relation to a defective relay contained within the Front Body Control Module (F-BCM) of the wiper system. The faulty component could lead to the front windscreen wipers becoming inoperative whilst in use, impacting driver safety.

The recall follows a larger American recall which took place several weeks ago regarding the same issue and is expected to affect over 70,000 Australian motorists who drive the BM and MN Mazda 3 models sold between July 2015 and July 2017.

Mazda Australia released a statement via the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) which stated, “Drivers may experience reduced or poor visibility while driving due to inoperative front windscreen wipers, possibly causing an accident”.

Mazda Australia went on to say that they will be contacting all affected customers for a free replacement of the F-BCM once parts become available.

Mazda 3 owners who may be affected are urged to contact Mazda Customer Support or check their car’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) against the recall list of the Mazda website.

This recall marks the third for Mazda Australia this year.
