Kia To Accelerate EV Transition By 2023

Kia has set its sights on becoming a leader in electrified vehicles by 2030, announcing significant investments and updated sales targets at its recent CEO Investor Day in Seoul, Korea.

Already a key player in the electric vehicle (EV) space, Kia has won numerous international award for its suite of electric models, which includes the EV6 and the Niro Hybrid and EV models.

However, the brand believes this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to its offerings, announcing it aims to offer 15 fully electric models worldwide by 2027.

This will help push the brand towards its target of 2.38 million electrified units sold by 2030, which would make up approximately 55 per cent of total sales. Of this figure, 1.6 million are expected to be full battery electric vehicles.

This push into the electric space will backed by a KRW 32 trillion (AUD $24 million) investment, of which 45 per cent will go towards future businesses, while significant funding will go towards continuing to establish the brand’s identity amongst consumers.

“In 2023, Kia went through a full-scale transformation of its corporate name, logo, product and design, as well as corporate strategy. As a result, our brand value has improved significantly, helping us to win a number of ‘Car of the Year’ awards in key markets,” said Kia President and CEO Ho Sung Song. “In order to become a Sustainable Mobility Solutions Provider, Kia needs to continue its efforts to strengthen Kia brand identity and establish an innovative and customer-centric business model.”
