Kia Opts for Low Noise Kumho Tyres on EV6

Kia has selected Kumho Tyre as the latest OE fitment provider for its first battery-electric vehicle, the EV6.

With no noise from an internal combustion engine, electric vehicle users are exposed to sounds produced from other elements of the car – particularly tyre noise.

The two tyre models chosen, supplied in 235/55R 19, feature Kumho’s K-Silent sound absorption technology that claims to deliver less resonance noise than standard products due to a polyurethane foam insert within the tyre.

The foam helps reduce the noise caused by the air vibration within the tyre, generated when it makes contact with the road.

Kumho developed its K-Silent system in 2014 and currently holds patents in Korea and around the world.

Both the Crugen HP71 and Ecsta PS71 tyres also feature additional properties making them ideal for use on electric vehicles. This includes low rolling resistance, strong anti-wear performance, and excellent traction.

The fitment of these low noise-tyres makes the vehicle not only more relaxing to drive, but also helps keep noise pollution down for those around, especially in built-up areas.

“We are now able to meet the needs for sustainable mobility by offering tyres with a low resonance noise that was developed with our proprietary K-Silent system for the EV6, the first BEV released at Kia,” said Kim Insoo, Senior Vice President of OE Sales at Kumho Tyre.

“In line with the vision embodied in our slogan ‘Your Smart Mobility Partner,’ we will grow with our customers by developing advanced technologies and products in response to the fast transition to future-oriented vehicles.”
