Hydrogen Research Institute Being Built in China by Toyota

Toyota Motor Corporation will be building a hydrogen technology research institute at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

The research facility will focus on studying hydrogen-fuelled technology and other “green” energy solutions to combat environmental problems.

The facility will be a part of Toyota’s push into the Chinese market and will also examine autonomy.

The institute will “cooperate in research…related to active utilisation of hydrogen energy that can help solve China’s energy problems,” Toyota says.

Shigeki Terashi, Toyota executive VP, has previously stated that the brand wishes to be a tier-two supplier of hybrid vehicle systems, and have recently announced that 20,000 electric vehicle technology patents will be made available to carmakers and parts supplier-manufacturers.

Toyota has already begun supplying fuel cell parts to two Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturers and says it wants to continue pushing the zero tailpipe emission technology to China.

In addition, Toyota will have 10 new electric vehicles in the Chinese market by next year.
