Ford Australia has revealed the details on the incoming F-150, with the big American truck to be available in local showrooms later this year in two variants, the XLT and the Lariat. Both will be available in SWB and LWB body styles.

Ford says the range will start with a Manufacturer List Price (MLP) of $106,950 plus on-road costs for the XLT SWB model and $107,945 for the XLT LWB. The flagship Lariat starts at $139,950 for the SWB model and $140,945 for the LWB.

As can be seen from the success of Ram Australia and its right-hand-drive converted vehicles in recent months, Australia seems to have quite an appetite for large, powerful, American trucks and the beefed-up towing capability and space they offer. Ford says the re-introduction of the F-Series into the country comes after significant local demand. The trucks have, the company adds, been extensively re-engineered by Ford Australia and RMA Automotive.

“As an iconic, full-size American pick-up, the F-150 is joining Australian showrooms thanks to an extensive and meticulous local re-engineering program. Together with RMA Automotive, Ford Australia earned the privilege of developing a world-first right-hand drive program for the F-150. We set ourselves the target of equivalency without compromise and are incredibly proud to have achieved this to our exacting standards, while offering our customers compelling value and generous standard specification,” said Tom Dohrmann, F-150 Assistant Chief Program Engineer, Ford Australia.

Both the XLT and Lariat F-150 will feature the 3.5-litre EcoBoost Twin-Turbo V6 petrol engine, delivering 298kW and 678Nm, coupled with 10-speed automatic transmission in 4×4 Crew cab configuration. Engine technology includes a port-fuel and direct-injection (PFDI) system, which uses a pair of injectors per cylinder along with twin-intercooled turbochargers. All F-150 models in Australia will, Ford says, be capable of towing 4.5 tonnes.

The first F-150s destined for re-manufacture in Australia have already been built in the U.S., and are, Ford adds, en route to the country.
