Faulty Takata Airbags are causing vehicle registration to be suspended

The ongoing issues arising from the Takata airbag crisis continues with the registration of 10 vehicles in Tasmania being suspended because of faulty airbags.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)  has said that progress figures for the period ending 21 December 2018 showed that 35 vehicles fitted with alpha airbag inflators still remain in Tasmania with 20,224 non-alpha defective Takata airbags still requiring replacement.

These 35 will be given absolute priority to fix, and the ACCC has advised that these vehicles should not be driven until their defected alpha airbag is replaced. Drivers can rectify their vehicle suspension through replacing their Takata alpha airbag inflators as requested by ACCC.

Throughout the Takata airbag crisis, Australia with several million vehicles fitted with Takata airbags recalled. Vehicle suspension may soon be seen in Queensland and other states for drivers who ignore request to have their alpha airbag replaced.

MTA Queensland members who deal with vehicles undergoing a recall are encouraged to  keep detailed notes for all trade-ins and used vehicle sale transactions if the vehicles are among the models affected by the recall.
