Faulty fuel-pump leads to mass recall for Toyota

Toyota Australia has issued a recall notice for 45,683 vehicles after a defect was discovered that was causing the fuel pump to fail.

The recall includes the following vehicles:

  • 2017-2019 Camry
  • 2017-2019 Corolla
  • 2013-2015 FJ Cruiser
  • 2017-2019 Kluger
  • 2017-2019 HiLux
  • 2013-2015 Prado
  • 2013-2015 Landcruiser

According to the notice lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the issue relates to a failure in the fuel pump that may cause the engine to stop running smoothly, which in turn may lead to the engine stalling and being unable to restart.

This defect puts the driver and all road users at increased risk of a road accident occurring.

Toyota Australia is in the process of contacting all owners of affected vehicles to notify them of the recall. Owners will then be contacted a second time to arrange an inspection and repair for affected vehicles, once replacement parts become available. This is expected to take place in June 2020.

If you believe your vehicle is included in this result, contact Toyota Australia on 1800 987 366 or visit www.toyota.com.au/find-a-dealer.

The same fuel pump issue has also caused Lexus, the luxury vehicle division of Toyota, to recall 6,610 of their vehicles.

Included under the Lexus recall is all 2013-2019 model-year IS, GS, RX, LC, LS, LX, NX, RC and IS-F model vehicles.

Like Toyota, all affected owners will be contacted shortly to notify them of the recall, before a second discussion will take place from June 2020 to organise an inspection and replacement.
