Round 2, 2018

Another weekend, another event!

This weekend our MTAQ Racing Team is back at the familiar Morgan park circuit in Warwick for round 2 of our Queensland state championships.

This is the back end of a whirlwind start to the 2018 season. Three events, in six weeks, in two different states.. What a way to start our year!
It has certainly been a very busy month or so, and a lot of work (considering this time last year we hadn’t even launched yet).

As we know, our Championship opener was a disappointment –  but we bounced back and our Bathurst results came as a timely boost and we can head to Warwick with some confidence.

Again, the competition will be very tight as we saw in Round 1 with all of the usual suspects to contend with. We made some gains over the Bathurst weekend, which I am keen to see how that translates here.

We are certainly being mentioned in the chats among the competitor group as to who might take home the big trophy this weekend, which is nice when your peers recognise your hard work and considerable effort. Certainly we feel the same, and think we are in a good spot with the car now working nicely.

With four races this weekend, we have a terrific opportunity to bank some championship points and start to claw back the points deficit we inherited after our Round one early exit. The year is far from over, but a strong result this weekend will help our chances in the title chase enormously and get us back in the game.

As we know, it is Motor sport – and anything can happen (and usually does for us)…. so I won’t jinx us with a big prediction but I am quietly confident that we can continue our Bathurst form, and be in the battle up front. We haven’t scored a round podium yet, so it will be nice to tick that box and bring home a nice new ornament for reception.

I am actually more anxious about this race meeting than any other so far in our MTAQ Racing journey – as we now carry with us an element of expectation. No longer are we a likable story in the mid pack; we are now considered the car most likely to challenge the defending champion for his crown. If it was a horse race, we would be carrying a lot of the money from the ‘smart punters’.

Now we just have to salute on race day… that is the hard bit!

Thank you again everyone for the continued support, can’t do it without you all!
