Chair Paul Peterson, Quarterly Update January – March 2022

From COVID-19 restrictions, staff and supply shortages, floods, and supercell storms, it has been a rough start to the year.

Despite these challenges, it is now more important than ever, that our message to consumers is to only trust MTA Queensland member businesses to perform the services required and avoid being ‘taken for a ride’.

As I write this, MTA Queensland readily prepares for the launch of a new, comprehensive marketing campaign – the core message being that only MTA Queensland members are accredited and have committed to the values needed to ensure confidence and trust.

More information will be released in the coming months.

An important part of the Association’s role is not only bringing member recognition to the public, but also raising the profile of important industry issues with stakeholders, including the State and Federal Governments.

MTA Queensland has seen exciting advocacy wins over the quarter, including the decision to retain the existing Sunday trading restrictions for new and used car, motorcycle, and caravan dealerships following the Review of Trading (Allowable Hours) Act 1990.

The decision was a fantastic outcome for dealers, who can operate as per current conditions in the face of changing market conditions and ongoing events of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Finally, we have also made some major strides in creating a supportive environment for women working across the automotive industry.

Through the recently established Auto Women group, women can connect and network with others; share experiences, advice, and news; and receive a level of mentorship from a group of women with vast knowledge across all industry sectors and across all levels of employment, from apprenticeship to CEO.

The Auto Women initiative will see several, virtual information and collaboration meetings held throughout the year, as well as an end-of-year dinner function that everyone involved will be invited to attend.

The first event under the Initiative was a virtual networking event held on Wednesday, 9 February 2022. The event was a huge success, creating a platform for over 50 women (and male champions) across the industry to come together.

Find out more about the Auto Women HERE. I encourage all to get involved.

Until next time, take care and stay safe.
