BMW Australia recalls 16,850 of its E70 X5 and E71 X6 ranges

BMW Australia has recalled 16,850 examples of its E70 X5 and E71 X6 ranges, for a potential fault with the plug-in contact, which may short circuit or overheat.

According to the recall notice issued by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, “the plug connection from the wiring harness to the blower controller may deteriorate over time. This may cause the plug-in contact to short circuit or overheat.”

The recall applies to the 2007-2010 BMW E70 X5 and BMW E71 X6, sold between 1 January 2007 and 31 August 2010.

“If the plug-contact short circuit or overheats, this may cause a fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident, serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

All known owners will be contacted by BMW Group Australia or an authorised BMW dealer.

Consumers can also contact an authorised service centre or call the BMW Group Customer Interaction Centre on 1800 813 299 to arrange inspection and repair.
