Automotive businesses urged to join a $10 million energy program aimed to slash power use

The Motor Trades Association of Queensland (MTA Queensland) is urging members to put themselves forward to be part of a $10 million energy program that could slash their power use.

The program proves to be a major win for the ongoing advocacy work of MTA Queensland aimed at reducing and minimising business costs, and Energy Minister, the Honourable Dr Anthony Lynham has said up to 30 regional businesses state wide would receive free energy audits and up to $250,000 in State funds to implement the audits’ energy-saving tips.

“This government is serious about reducing the impact of power prices on Queensland businesses,” he said.

“The independent Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) has been transitioning some large electricity users to business tariffs over the past six years, and this program helps them make that transition”.

“The Queensland Productivity Commission recommended that government help large energy users with this transition and this program is one element of this support.”

Under the program, selected business owners can expect to work one-on-one with energy experts to look at requirements of the new tariff they are transitioning to, then crunch the numbers on electricity usage and identify efficiencies.
