Aston Martin Reveals Hybrid Supercar Valhalla

The all-new Aston Martin Valhalla has been officially revealed, with just 500 examples slated for production and the first deliveries promised for 2023.

The production-ready Valhalla has also been completely redesigned from the concept variant that was unveiled in 2019.

The engine has been swapped out from the original V6 petrol engine for a Mercedes-AGM-built twin-turbo hybridized 4.0 litre V8 powertrain.

Supplemented by two electric motors – one on each axle – the powertrain raises the combined maximum output to 699kW/1000Nm and permits an all-wheel-drive layout.

The engine, sitting directly behind the driver, sends 552kW to the rear wheels alone, via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and electronic limited-slip differential.

Aston Martin claims the vehicle can go 0-100km/h in just 2.5 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 330km/h.

In electric-only mode, the vehicle claims a maximum range of 15km at top speeds of up to 130km/hr, via power that is sent exclusively to the front wheels. The Valhalla also boasts an e-reverse gear, using electricity only when reversing to help save weight in the transmission.

Externally, while the concept’s carbon-fibre monocoque tub has been retained, almost all of the panels and aerodynamic devices are visibly different. The open ‘negative space’ front facia has been replaced with a more traditional Aston Marting grille. Michelin tyres wrap around 20-inch front and 21-inch rear alloy wheels.

Interior images are yet to be revealed however, Aston Martin says it will feature a centrally mounted interface that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The vehicle will also possess a range of advanced safety technology including auto emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.

“When we created the Valhalla concept we were keen to emphasise the design legacy of the Aston Martin Valkyrie and that intent remains unchanged, but the execution has evolved considerably in order to reach production of this all-new car,” said Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Marek Reichman.

“Though the legacy of the Valkyrie is clear, Valhalla is now a more mature, fully resolved piece of design. One which combines the pure aerodynamic function you would expect from a marque competing in Formula One together with the beautiful form, striking proportions and exemplary detailing for which Aston Martin is renowned.”

Aston Martin has been confirmed that the Valhalla will be built in both left and right-hand-drive configurations, opening up the possibility of an Australian launch.
