Australia takes the lead in revolutionising tyre recycling

Australia’s first tyre re-manufacturing facility has been given the green light by Gold Coast City Council and Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage.

Pearl Global – a Stapylton-based business – is about to be listed on the Australian Stock Exchange having generated $5 million of funding, and could revolutionise the way the world’s 1.1 billion tyres are disposed of every year.

The process is called thermal desorption and applies heat in a fully-enclosed oven to shredded tyres in order to break it down to its integral ingredients, rather than using chemicals or acids.
