Plastic Bag Ban – effective 1 July 2018

The Queensland Government will ban plastic bags effective from 1 July 2018.

From this date, Queensland businesses are not permited to use lightweight plastic shopping bags when servicing customers.

Instead, businesses may choose to provide and charge for alternative bags such as “green bags” or reusable heavy duty plastic bags.

The National Retail Association (MRA) is hosting a series of state-wide workshops to full brief retailers about the ban.

The Motor Trade Association of Queensland (MTA Queensland) encourages members to stay compliant, remove the supply of lightweight plastic shopping bags and to attend the NRA workshops if unsure about what is/is not accepted.
