Mazda CX-60

2023 Mazda CX-60

The first-ever Mazda CX-60 will arrive down under in Q2 2023, launching with a hybrid-only line-up.

Boasting two mild hybrids and one plug-in hybrid variant, the powerplants can be mated to any one of the three highly specified model grades – Evolve, GT, or Azami.

The flagship CX-60 plug-in hybrid is set to be powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a 100kW electric motor and a 355-volt plug-in hybrid system. Mazda claims a combined output of 241kW and 500Nm, becoming the most powerful road car in the Japanese carmaker’s history.

The CX-60 will also be offered in a choice of two six-cylinder engines, assisted by 48-volt mild-hybrid systems, with customers given the option of petrol or diesel power. Both mild-hybrid variants feature turbocharged 3.3-liter six-cylinder engines, with the diesel engine developing 187kW/550Nm, while the petrol produces 209kW/450Nm.

All engines are combined with Mazda’s new Skyactive-Drive eight-speed automatic transmission and will be fitted with a rear-biased i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system helping the driver switch between five different driving modes: Normal, Sport, Off-Road, Towing, and EV (PHEV only).

The exterior styling of the CX-60 Evolve features 18-inch alloy wheels in a grey metallic finish, while the black interior gives the cabin a sense of “depth and a classic, elegant look”. The front eight-way adjustable seats, instrument panel, and side door trims are upholstered in Maztec leatherette and the steering wheel and gear shift knob are trimmed in leather.

Along with a variety of additional standard inclusions, the GT model comes fitted with black 20-inch alloy wheels, a gloss-black front honeycomb grille, body-color wheel arches, and lower cladding along with other styling changes. The interior, available in either black or Revera Stone – comes fitted with leather-upholstered seats and offers a “welcoming sense of luxury.”

Finally, the range-leading Azami model brings a variety of enhanced styling elements, such as black and machine-cut 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlamps with bright signature lighting, and a front bumper with a bar-type grille. The interior’s woven textile fabrics and Nappa leather upholstery are only two of the premium materials and finishes used on the Azami.

Standard equipment across the range includes Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, a power tailgate, powered mirrors (with auto-folding, heating, and auto-dimming), and keyless entry.

Commenting on the new flagship model’s significance, Mazda Australia Managing Director, Vinesh Bhindi said: “The Mazda CX-60 is more than an exciting new SUV; it’s the evolution of Mazda Premium – a high-quality concentration of design, driving dynamics, technology and comfort developed around our customers and what they want from a mid-sized SUV.”

Prices start from $59,800 for the Evolve 3.3L I6 e-Skyactiv G petrol turbo with M Hybrid Boost to $87,252 for the Azami 2.5L I4 e-Skyactiv PHEV.
