New BMW S 1000 RR Heading Down Under in 2023

BMW Motorrad has premiered its all-new and improved S 1000 RR, set to arrive in Australia for customer deliveries in the first half of next year.

Over ten years after the first generation of the RR mesmerised the world of motorcycles, key updates make the model an even sharper and more focused machine.

“With a more powerful engine, advanced suspension and chassis, the new Brake Slide Assist and DTC Slide Control assistance systems as well as optimised aerodynamics with winglets and a redesigned rear end, we were able to raise the RR’s performance to a new level,” said Wolfgang Wallner, Project manager of the S 1000 RR.

Boasting the same 999cc inline four-cylinder engine with a six-speed gearbox but with key updates, peak power is now 154kW (210hp) at 13,500 rpm and 113Nm of torque at 11,000 rpm.

Dynamic Traction Control comes standard, but the new 2023 Slide Control function allows the rider to select two pre-set drift angles for the traction control system when accelerating out of bends, reducing slip, and stabilising the motorcycle. As with the previous model, the RR has four ride modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic, and Race – with an optional ‘Pro’ race mode.

An advanced “Flex Frame” and newly designed chassis and suspension geometry further increase riding precision. While the heart of the RR’s chassis remains an aluminium bridge frame, it has been given several openings in the side areas with the aim of optimising flexibility laterally. The steering head angle has been flattened out by 0.5 degrees and the offset of the triple clamps reduced by 3mm.

The design also benefits from a re-designed front section including winglets that help to generate aerodynamic downforce, a new, lighter and sportier-looking rear section, as well as three new colour schemes: Blackstorm metallic; Style Passion in Racingred non-metallic, and the racing-oriented Lightwhite non-metallic/BMW M.

The new BMW S 1000 RR is priced from $25,750 (excl. on-road costs) and will launch in Australia next year.
