Ford Australia has confirmed the all-electric E-Transit Custom will be available in Australia in 2024.

E-Transit Custom – which will sit in the one-tonne can segment – will join the Australian line-up alongside the Escape plug-in hybrid and the larger all-electric Ford E-Transit, due later in the year, as part of plans for at least five electrified vehicles by the end of 2024.

While some details on the Custom are still to be revealed, Ford says it has a targeted driving range of up to 380 km, DC fast-charging, and full towing capability. Features will include ProPower Onboard technology that will provide exportable power for tools, lights, and devices while on site.

The all-electric E-Transit Custom will enter production in the second half of 2023. Further product details will be released in September this year.

“The E-Transit Custom is exactly the kind of versatile, practical van business customers are looking for, with the benefit of zero-emissions efficiency,” said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia and New Zealand. “We are focused on deeply understanding the needs of commercial vehicle customers and bringing them the best of our global line-up.”

Meanwhile, the full-size E-Transit is due to arrive from mid-2022. It features a 68kWh battery, a driving range of up to 317km, and fast-charging capability from 15 per cent to 80 per cent in around 34 minutes. Peak output is 198kW and 430Nm of torque and there is an Eco Mode drive mode that aims to provide an 8-10 per cent improvement in energy usage, maximising driving range.

AC charging and DC fast charging is available with the on-board 11.3kW charger delivering a 100 per cent charge in a just over 8 hours. Using a 115kW high-power DC fast-charger, E-Transit can top-up the battery from 15 per cent to 80 per cent in around 34 minutes.

Cargo capacity is up to 12.4 cubic metres, and it has a targeted payload of 1,616 kg.
