SsangYong Australia has introduced a limited-edition model to the top of the 2022 Rexton large 7-seater SUV range – the Black Edition.

Based on the Ultimate model, the new Black Edition has some extra exterior touches, including a deep gloss black finish to grille elements and new-style LED fog lights. Other dark touches include black-finish 20-inch alloy wheels and black painted roof rails.

The Rexton Black Edition will be available in two body colours, Space Black or Pearl White.

The Rexton range – the ELX, the Ultimate, and now the Black Edition – offers plenty of advanced safety features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Safety Distance Warning, Lane Change-Collision Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Warning, and Smart High Beam.

Power comes from a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine delivering 148kW and 441Nm. There’s an 8-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle shift, as well as part-time 4×4 with 4H/4L range and automatic-locking rear differential. There’s double-wishbone suspension at the front and 10-link independent suspension at the rear, and the Rexton rides on 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

Along with the extra touches it receives, the Black Edition model shares all the features of the ELX and Ultimate models, and they are many. Amongst these is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and front and rear parking sensors.

The Ultimate model receives extras over the ELX, including a power sunroof and tailgate, premium quilted Nappa leather interior with powered front seats, heated leather steering wheel, 360-degree camera, wireless phone charger, third-row A/C controls, and touch-sensing front door locks with walk-away auto-door locking.

Recommended driveaway pricing for the 2022 Rexton model range sees the ELX come in at $47,990, the Ultimate at $54,990, and the Black Edition for $56,585 (with metallic paint). The Black Edition Rexton is scheduled to be on sale from August.
