Hyundai IONIQ 5 Earns Triple Win at 2022 World Car Awards

Hyundai celebrated a triple win at the 2022 World Car Awards, with its new IONIQ 5 electric SUV being named World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year, and World Car Design of the Year.

The winning vehicle was selected by secret ballot from a jury of 102 distinguished international automotive journalists from across 33 countries, who evaluated each vehicle as part of their professional network. The votes were then tabulated by KPMG.

“IONIQ 5 represents a pivotal achievement for us as we pioneer a new generation of smart mobility solutions with its innovative E-GMP platform technologies, exceptional performance, and disruptive approach to design and space,” said Jaehoon Chang, President & CEO of Hyundai Motor Company.

“Our game-changing EV has made a strong impact on increasingly eco-conscious and demanding consumers around the world, and its success supports the acceleration of electrification of the automotive industry.”

The IONIQ 5 was selected from an initial entry list of 28 vehicles, including the runners-up Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6.

2022 World Electric Vehicle of the Year

The IONIQ 5 was selected from an initial entry list of 11 vehicles, including the runners-up Audi e-tron GT and Mercedes-Benz EQS.

2022 World Car Design of the Year

For World Car Design of the Year, a design panel consisting of six highly respected world design experts were asked to review each candidate and establish a shortlist of recommendations for the juror’s final vote. The finalists for the design award included the Audi e-Tron and the Kia EV6.

“We are truly honoured to receive these prestigious awards, which recognise the talent and hard work of all our people and business partners at Hyundai Motor Company,” continued Chang.

“The pace of change at Hyundai will continue unabated through the rest of 2022 as we will soon be adding to our award-winning IONIQ range.”
