Kia has revealed additional details for its highly anticipated EV6 electric crossover, which is just weeks away from Australian showrooms.

The 2022 EV6 arrives as the brand’s first dedicated battery electric vehicle built on Kia’s new EV platform.

“Local interest in the EV6 has been extraordinary and we are really pleased it is finally here,” said Kia’s Chief Operating Officer, Damien Meredith. “The EV6 represents the transformation of Kia and where we are heading – a true halo for the brand.”

Two trim grades will be offered at launch – the entry-level, range focused EV6 Air in rear-wheel-drive (RWD) only and the top trim GT-Line in RWD or all-wheel-drive (AWD) options. All EV6 models will be powered by a 77.4kWh high-voltage battery.

The RWD single motor EV6 Air is powered by a 168kW/350Nm motor on the rear axle which provides 528km of driving range. It has a 0-100km sprint time of 7.3 seconds with 19” alloy wheels. The entry-level Air starts the range off at $67,990 excluding on-road costs.

The RWD single motor is also available as a choice in the GT-line up with 20” alloy wheels as standard, a driving range of 504km and priced at $74,990.

The optional AWD dual-motor GT-Line produces 239kw / 605Nm, capable of reaching 0-100 in 5.2 seconds. The AWD comes with 20” alloy wheels, a range of 484km and a price of $82,990.

All three trims offer an extensive list of technology including two 12.3” curved displays, wireless phone charging, a paddle shifter to adjust the level of regenerative braking, and V2L on the inside among others. Safety features include (but are not limited to) blind spot detection, lane follow assist and smart cruise control.

The GT-line options get a range of extra features including an augmented reality head-up display, 14 speaker Meridian Sound System, Remote Smart Park Assist and heated front seats/steering wheel. It also includes a blind-spot view monitor, 3D surround camera, and power child lock.

A full list of EV6 Air and GT-Line specifications will be released at launch.

According to Kia, its dealers have already received over 1,200 orders from more than 25,000 “expressions of interest” for the vehicle. Unfortunately for Australia, strong demand overseas means only 500 examples of the Air and GT-Line will reach local showrooms in 2022.

Kia has an exciting 12 months ahead, introducing a variety of new and improved models including the Sorento Hybrid, all-new Niro, the upgraded Seltos and the performance eGT EV6 in late 2022/early 2023.
