Chair Paul Peterson, Quarterly Update October-December 2021

2021 was a big year for the automotive industry in Australia. Ongoing supply constraints, labour and skills shortages, and the presence of COVID-19 in the community continue to have an impact. However, despite these challenges, we push forward.

MTA Queensland has been extremely vocal in advocating the interests of our members. Over the last three months, we have focused on matters involving seven-day trading, written-off vehicles, e-scooter safety, as well as Compulsory Third-Party insurance premium hikes. The stronger we are, the harder we push.

2021 also saw a busy and well-supported event space.

In October, MTA Queensland hit the road once again, visiting Gladstone and Mackay. Taking place over two evenings, the sessions were aimed at bringing both members and the broader industry together for a series of roundtable discussions and networking opportunities. The event was led by Group CEO Rod Camm and Deputy CEO Kellie Dewar, accompanied by representatives from the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Both events proved to be extremely well attended and entertaining.

We also held our annual Industry Awards Gala on Saturday, 20th November at the Emporium Hotel in Southbank. The night was a huge success, with more than 200 guests from across the state in attendance. Congratulations to the award winners and finalists on the night, you have all done a fantastic job!

2021 was a remarkable year – despite the number of challenges we are seeing at present, MTA Queensland is optimistic for the success of its members in a prosperous 2022.

Until next time, take care and stay safe.
