Vietnam’s VinFast Launches Global EV Brand

VinFast, the Vietnamese carmaker, has officially launched its global electric vehicle brand and unveiled two electric SUV models, the mid-size VF e35 and full-size VF e36.

While no powertrain details were revealed at the vehicles’ launch at the LA Auto Show in November, VinFast has begun production of the smart, well-appointed small SUV, the VF e34, which has a 44.5kWh battery pack and a single 110kW electric motor. Range is a claimed 300km. It is available in Vietnam for the equivalent of around $AU40,000.

The VF e35 and VF e36 models are larger and, with a design by Pininfarina, are fine-looking machines.

While some details are yet be revealed, there are plenty of features that have, with both models fitted with a range of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) that include Lane Assist, Collision Warning, Driver Monitoring, Fully Automated Parking, Summon Vehicle and more. Smart Infotainment features will include in-car control features such as Voice Assistant, Virtual Assistant, and E-Commerce Services, among others.

Though Vinfast is a young company, founded in 2017, it has plenty of muscle behind its shift into EVs and its plans for a move into international markets including North America and Europe. It is part of Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest conglomerate which has interests in technology, retail, real estate development and other sectors.

The VF e35 and VF e36 are scheduled to be available for pre-order in the first half of 2022, with deliveries planned to begin in the fourth quarter.
