Next-Generation Honda Civic Lands in Australia

Honda Australia has announced pricing and specifications for the new 11th-generation Civic.

The new hatch will initially be offered as a single, VTi LX grade powered by an uprated 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 131kW and 240Nm and driving the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The initial VTi LX grade will be followed, the company says, by an e:HEV hybrid variant in 2022, and a high-performance Type R version.

Underpinning the 11th-generation Civic is an enhanced structure and stronger body, with improvements to the platform and body delivering increased stiffness and rigidity.

Nicely styled on the outside with a sportier look than its predecessor, the new Civic is just as high quality on the inside.

The front seats have been redesigned to offer more support and long-haul comfort, and technology has been designed with a focus on ease of use. There’s a high-definition full-colour LCD instrument panel and a 9-inch Advanced Display colour touchscreen audio system mounted high on the dash. There’s also wireless Apple CarPlay alongside the existing Android Auto integration, a Qi-compatible wireless phone charger, and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system.

Fitted with the Honda Sensing suite of active safety and driver-assist technology, the Civic has plenty of high-tech features. These include Traffic Jam Assist, improved Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Traffic Jam Assist, and Driver attention monitor, amongst others. The 18-inch alloy wheels have noise-reducing resonator technology.

The Civic VTi LX grade is priced at $47,200 drive away. That pricing, says Honda, reflects the move to the premium end of the Civic’s small car category.

“The 11th-generation Civic represents a step change for Honda in the small car segment, with the all-new model elevating key aspirational elements of the Honda brand such as craftsmanship, premium quality and intuitive design,” said Stephen Collins, Director, Honda Australia.

“On the eve of its 50th anniversary, Honda’s designers and engineers have taken the Civic to a whole new level, producing a car that is more advanced, more sophisticated and more premium than ever before.

“For Australia, the all-new Civic has been specified to appeal to a new target customer, one that aligns with the move to a more premium positioning for the Civic nameplate and the Honda brand overall.”
