Chair Paul Peterson, Quarterly Update July-September 2021

This past quarter has been an extremely busy and exciting time for MTA Queensland.

Last month saw the launch of our very first selection of micro-credentials – short, sharp online courses that offer non-accredited training in a specific area of work or study.

Ranging from electric and hybrid electric vehicles to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, workplace relations and social media for automotive businesses, each micro-credential is developed to meet current industry needs. While initially, only a handful of topics will be available, these will quickly expand to cover a host of subjects that have been identified by Association members and industry more generally.

A valuable source of information when identifying these needs is through MTA Queensland’s 11 membership divisions. Open to both members and non-members, each division represents a specific sector within the automotive industry. The meeting agenda often involves robust discussions around the priorities of business, current challenges and opportunities, as well as technical and educational updates.

Following the latest round of divisional meetings, MTA Queensland welcomes Jasmine Flanagan, co-owner of Currumbin Wreckers, as the new Vice-Chair of the Automotive Parts Recyclers Division (APRD). We additionally welcome Melanie Moffatt from Superior Auto Smash Repairs, who is coming on board as a Committee Member for the National Auto Collision Alliance (NACA) division. Welcome both!

The quarter also saw MTA Queensland successfully host two sell-out events: Carmageddon, held at the expansive Jack Brabham Automotive Centre of Excellence in July, as well as the Motor Trades Golf Day at Virginia Golf Club in September.

Carmageddon

MTA Queensland’s annual Carmageddon symposium provides the opportunity to learn first-hand about the innovations and transformations impacting the automotive industry.

This year’s event covered key topics related to new technology and the future of mobility, clean fuel, and infrastructure, as well as waste management and opportunities for business. Also featured was an impressive exhibition of the latest electric cars, retro conversions, vans, bikes, and the latest tech from QUT and business.

Motor Trades Golf Day

Following a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Motor Trades Golf Day returned in 2021, with 24 teams signing up to battle it out for golfing supremacy.

After a successful day of golf, networking, and enjoying the company of fellow industry members, the players returned to the clubhouse for a well-earned meal and drinks, with a number of lucky door prizes also handed out.

The team from Century Yuasa Batteries were crowned the champions at the end of the day, with the Team from Autopact hot on their heels as runner-up.

Finally,

Looking forward, the Association has one final event for the year, the Industry Awards Gala.

This prestigious occasion is filled with entertainment and awards to celebrate the achievements of outstanding individuals and businesses throughout the state.

Held at the Emporium Hotel in Southbank on Saturday, 20th November 2021, this event is not one to be missed.

Find out more HERE.

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Until next time, take care and stay safe.
