In its mission to serve as the peak industry representing the interests of employers in the retail, service and repair sectors of the Queensland automotive industry, the Motor Trades Association of Queensland comprises 11 individual divisions, each representing businesses in specific industry sectors. These sectors include:

Following the latest round of divisional committee meetings, MTA Queensland is proud to announce that the APRD recently welcomed Jasmine Flanagan, co-owner of Currumbin Wreckers, as the divisions new Vice-Chair.

With six-years’ worth of experience in the automotive industry, Jasmine’s journey in the industry got started back in 2015 when she purchased Currumbin Wreckers with her husband, Steve. With a background in health, Jasmine was not limited by her lack of automotive experience, jumping headfirst into the challenge. With Steve running the operational and hands-on side of things, Jasmine manages the sales, managerial and accounting roles in the office, and has even obtained her automotive parts interpreting certificate.

Having heard good things about the benefits of MTA Queensland membership through a friend, Jasmine made the decision to become a member in December 2020. Soon after she began attending the APRD committee meetings as a way of networking with fellow parts recycling businesses.

“We were initially intrigued by the networking and training opportunities available through MTA Queensland, as well as the knowledge and support outlets available,” said Jasmine. “When I heard about the meetings and some of the interesting initiatives being discussed there, I thought it would be good to go along get to know some of the other business owners.”

“I certainly didn’t go in with the intention of joining the committee, let alone becoming the Vice-Chair, but here we are!”

With a number of exciting projects in conversation for the APRD, including the recycling of automotive parts for additive manufacturing project QUT is running in collaboration with MTA Queensland, and the purchasing of automotive shredder machines, it is proving to be an exciting time for the division and the businesses who stand to benefit from these initiatives, including Jasmine’s.

“I am really excited to take up this new role and I look forward to working with Lawrie (APRD Chair Lawrie Beacham) and the rest of the committee as we continue to support Queensland parts recycler businesses going forward.”

MTA Group Chief Executive Rod Camm said “It is always a pleasing moment when our female members make the decision to join the executive team of one of our committees. In addition to being beneficial to the betterment of the industry, I am sure Jasmine will bring fresh perspectives and new ideas to the role and prove to be a real asset going forward.”

MTA Queensland would additionally like to welcome Melanie Moffatt from Superior Auto Smash Repairs, who has come aboard as a Committee Member for the NACA division.
