2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition revealed

Entering its final year of production, the 2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition supercar pays homage to the 1964 prototype that started it all.

The limited-edition variant is inspired by the original prototype that debuted at the New York International Auto Show on April 3, 1964 and went on to become America’s only Le Mans-winning supercar.

The vehicle was unveiled at this year’s Monterey Car Week alongside the surviving 164 GT prototype, chassis number GT/105.

“This is the first Ford GT Heritage Edition that goes beyond celebrating race wins – this one goes deep, and honors the earliest of Ford supercar heritage,” said Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager.

“The Ford GT’64 Prototype Heritage Edition is a modern interpretation of the original, with no mistaking what this car is paying tribute to.”

Drawing inspiration from the iconic original, the Heritage Edition wears a two-tone paint job. It’s finished in Wimbledon White with Antimatter Blue graphics, including a triple racing stripe directly down the middle of the car.

The front splitter, mirror stalks, spoiler mounts, and diffuser are finished in carbon-fibre. Inside the cabin, Alcantara trim lines the dashboard, door cards, and steering wheel.

The vehicle is powered by the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine as the regular GT, that produces 492kW of power and 745Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Ford is yet to confirm production details or pricing, however the current-generation GT isn’t built in right-hand drive – ruling out an Australian launch.
