Students explore the trade with Auto Camp

The June school holidays brought another group of eager young adults to the Sir Jack Brabham Automotive Centre of Excellence to learn about the industry through MTA Queensland’s Auto Camp.

Auto Camp is a fantastic opportunity to give students aged 14-17 a taste of working in the automotive sector, and all the exciting and interesting challenges it can bring.

The three-day immersive program covers an array of automotive skills ranging from basic car maintenance to new technology including hybrid and electric vehicles.

Jade Reilly (16) was one student in attendance looking to gain a better understanding of the industry.

“I have always been interested in cars, wanting to learn more about how they work…my favourite part was learning about the mechanical side of the Auto Industry.”

Ethan Welch (16) was another student who shared a similar experience.

“I really enjoyed the course. It was a lot of fun. A good learning experience for the technique to do things.”

“I had never done [spray painting] before. It makes me want to look further into the body repair industry.”

The course is a great experience for those that have an interest in electronics, engineering, design or mechanics as a career pathway, or simply working on cars as a hobby.

Tyler Kelly (16) signed up for the course to explore the industry as a potential career.

“It was a good course for those who are into cars. I’ve already told mates at school to try the camp.”

“It was a bit more technical than I thought. I’d still like to get an apprenticeship in mechanical.”

The next Auto Camp course will be held on 21-23 September 2021. Places are limited so book in soon!
