LOCKDOWN: Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Logan, Redlands and Ipswich

Greater Brisbane will go into lockdown for three days from 5pm this afternoon after 10 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the state overnight.

Four of the new cases were locally acquired and one of them had travelled to Gladstone from March 25 to 28 while the other six were detected in hotel quarantine.

The lockdown will include the council areas of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Logan, Redland and Ipswich.

  • Schools in these areas will be closed
  • Face masks will be mandatory, although not while driving. (For the rest of the State, outside the five local government areas that make up greater Brisbane, masks need to be worn when you can’t physically distance, when you’re inside or when you’re on public transport)
  • People can leave home for these reasons only – essential work, medical attention, to look after a vulnerable person, exercise and to buy food

The Queensland government at this stage has not updated the Chief Health Officer public health directions.

However, we believe the restrictions will be the same as Businesses, Activities and Undertakings Direction (No.16) whereby businesses in the automotive industry are deemed “essential” by virtue of not being included as a “restricted business, activity or undertaking” and can remain open following the usual COVID- safe procedures and using PPE. Of course, you can make your own decisions about whether you choose to remain open according to your circumstances.

We will make further updates when the Chief Health Officer has released a public health direction.
