Cupra to enter Australian market in early 2022

Spanish performance car brand Cupra has announced it will enter the Australian market in early 2022.

Owned by the Volkswagen Group, Cupra was established in early 2018 as a design and performance spin-off from Spanish manufacturer SEAT.

Cupra sells fast and stylish cars using tech from Volkswagen and Audi.

“Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda each retain their entirely distinct identities, but perhaps no brand more so than Cupra with its uniquely sporting selection of SUVs and compact cars. There could scarcely be a range better bespoke to a certain Australian customer set,” said Michael Bartsch, Volkswagen Group Australia managing director.

“Australia is a young market and Cupra is a young brand. Customers are looking for new brands, there is a high middle-class income and it is a progressive society. We are confident that Cupra can be successful in this country,” added Wayne Griffiths, SEAT and Cupra Global President.

The line-up of vehicles that will be offered locally is yet to be revealed, with further details expected to be announced in the coming months.
