All new Toyota Yaris Cross SUV to be made available in nine variants

Toyota Australia has confirmed that the upcoming Yaris Cross SUV model due to be released on November 2 will be available in nine different variants.

Toyota’s first attempt to enter the rapidly growing light SUV market, the Yaris Cross SUV model will be made in 2WD petrol, 2WD hybrid and AWD hybrid variants in the entry-level GX, GXL and top-of-the-range Urban.

Starting at $26,990 for the 2WD GX model, the Yaris Cross provides customers with an affordable option with the styling of the popular Yaris hatch in the dominant SUV segment according to Toyota Australia Sales and Marketing Vice President Sean Hanley.

“It’s no secret that the SUV market continues to grow, and Toyota has answered that customer demand with its first entry into the light SUV market with the Yaris Cross,” said Hanley.

“Toyota was a pioneer in the small SUV market when we first launched the RAV4 in 1994, and the new Yaris Cross offers customers the ideal combination of style and functionality in a compact city-friendly package at an affordable price.”

All variants come with smart entry and start, Apple CarPlay, reversing camera and adaptive cruise control, with the GXL and Urban ranges adding LED headlights, blind spot monitors and satellite navigation, while 18-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate with kick sensor and heated front seats are reserved for the Urban range only.

Each variant will also be equipped with Toyota Connected Services, a new feature that offers automatic collision notifications and assists the driver in the event of a collision by sending a signal of the vehicle’s location to Toyota.

The petrol Yaris Cross is powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine that packs 88kW of power and 145nM of torque.

The hybrid variant comes with slightly less power in the form of a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine, producing 85kW of power but a fuel consumption of just 3.8l per 100km.

Meanwhile, the AWD hybrid comes with an additional electric motor that allows the drive torque of the vehicle to be split between 100 per cent to the front wheels and up to 40 per cent to the front and 60 per cent to the rear.
