Tractor sales experience record month as Instant Asset Write Off brings in buyers

The Federal Government’s Instant Asset Write Off incentive, coupled with ideal weather conditions has seen a record surge in new tractors sales for the month of June.

At a time when many industries are suffering from the impacts of COVID-19, tractor dealers have reported no such struggles as the monthly tractor sales accelerated past the 2,000 unit mark for the first time since 1981.

This signifies a month-on-month increase of 48 per cent from June 2019 and pushes total tractor sales for 2020 to 21 per cent ahead of last year.

Leading the way in the surging sector was the 100 to 200hp (75-150kw) category, where the extended Instant Asset Write Off incentive led to a 66 per cent increase in sales in June, while the 40 to 100hp (30-75kw) category also experienced significant growth, rising by 48 per cent.

Sales for the under 40hp (30kw) category rose by 50 per cent during a strong month, while the sale of Balers for the month took the category to a 36 per cent increase on 2019’s figures.

Combine Harvester sales also picked up in June ahead of harvesting season, pushing sales to 136 units so far through 2020, up from 113 through the first six months of 2019.

The strong demand has left many dealers concerned that they will soon be running low on supply, with strong sales expected to continue in the coming months while the Instant Asset Write Off is extended.

With many manufacturers across Europe and the US only recently beginning to reopen and recommence manufacturing following forced closures due to COVID-9, supply for many brands is only just beginning to arrive again. It is predicted that this will mean slightly less choice in some models and brands, however, for those with more flexibility, there is still plenty to choose from.
