Toyota production returning to normal following shutdowns

Toyota are ramping up production following the COVID-19 forced shutdown of manufacturing plants, as a surge in customer interest coupled with the approaching end of financial year sales leaves some of the brands popular models low on available stock.

Production of the Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series model will reportedly be boosted by 70 per cent over the next three months to September, as Toyota looks to meet an unexpected demand for the upper large SUV segment leading vehicle.

Sales of the Toyota LandCruiser are down by 10 per cent through the first five months of the year, faring much better than the overall car market, which is down 24 per cent.

Toyota Australia is confident that there is efficient stock to cater for orders placed in July and August before production is returned to normal.

The Toyota LandCruiser joins the Toyota HiLux in ramping up production levels, after the market leading ute returned to production on 11 May following a four-week shutdown.

While supply levels are expected to remain strong for the Toyota HiLux, dealers are reporting better than expected interest as the Federal Government’s $150,000 instant asset write off scheme brings buyers back to the showrooms.

Toyota holds a strong lead as the most popular manufacturer with Australian consumers, holding a 24.2 per cent market share.

In the month of May, 14,466 Toyota vehicles were sold, with five of the top 10 models sold belonging to the Japanese brand.

Toyota have also resumed production on the new facelifted Toyota HiLux, which is expected to become available from late August.
