Ford recalls 20,000 vehicles over transmission fault

Ford Australia has been forced to issue a recall notice for more than 20,000 vehicles after a fault was discovered with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

Among the recall is 15,924 of the popular Ranger ute built between 2017 and 2019, with 5,044 2018-2019 Everest SUVs also affected.

Ford Australia said the recall relates to a defect discovered in the 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engines fitted with the 10 speed automatic transmission. The gears inside the transmission fluid pump have been found to potentially fail while the vehicle is in operation.

If this were to occur while the vehicle is being driven, it may result in the hydraulic pressure dropping in the transmission, which may cause the car to stop driving.

According to Ford Australia, more than 60 per cent of affected vehicles have already been repaired, with the remaining vehicle owners to be contacted to organise a free inspection and repair.
