Volvo Australia has issued a recall for 9,205 vehicles built between March 2019 and March 2020 after a software issue in the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system was discovered.

Encompassed in the recall is the 2019-2020 model-year S60 Sedan, V60, V90 Cross Country, XC40, XC60 and XC90 vehicles.

The recall was lodged after it was discovered that the AEB system does not correctly recognise cyclists or pedestrians, meaning there is a chance that it does not automatically deploy once it identifies a potential collision with a cyclist or pedestrian.

If this malfunction were to occur, it may increase the risk of injury to road users.

Volvo Australia says that the software issue does not affect the vehicles driver-operated brakes and the AEB system still functions normally when identifying potential collisions with other vehicles.

Volvo is in the process of contacting all affected customers to organise a free of charge software update.
