Indian Motorcycle expand gear switch recall

Indian Motorcycles Australia have expanded their recall on 2014-2019 Thunderstroke models after the gear position indicator fault was discovered in a further 173 motorcycles.

Following Indian Motorcycles initial recall back in November 2019 that saw 2,060 motorcycles taken off the road as a result of the gear indicator switch potentially oxidising, the new recall has expanded this number to 2,233 potentially faulty motorcycles.

If the gear switch were to oxidise, it may show an incorrect gear, or may show the motorcycle is in neutral when it is in fact in a gear, potentially causing the bike to stall or roll forward if the driver releases the clutch.

The following models are included in the following 2014-2019 models: Chief, Chief Classic, Chief Dark Horse, Chief Vintage, Springfield, Springfield Dark Horse, Chieftrain, Chieftrain Classic, Chieftrain Dark Horse, Chieftrain Limited, Chieftrain Elite, Roadmaster, Roadmaster Classic and Roadmaster Elite

Replacement parts have now been made available, so affected customers are encouraged to contact their preferred Indian Motorcycle dealership for inspection and repair.

To check if your motorcycle is included in the recall, contact the Indian Motorcycle customer service department on 03 9394 5610.
